Everybody knows the happiest cows around are grazing in Wisconsin !!!!!

The beef cows and their calves  are usually out grazing the hills and valleys here on the Meuer Farm from April till October.  This year is no exception. These are some of the cows and pasture you will see on the hayrides that take place here on the Meuer farm.  Hayrides take place during the "MAZE" season, and on special weekends.  We also do hayrides by special request!

WI. Honey Queen, Danielle Dale with a bottle of Meuer Farm Honey
On Sept. 10, 2011 , we were lucky to have the  2011 Wisconsin Honey Queen; Danielle Dale, from Sparta , WI.  visit the Meuer Farm Corn Maze.  She went on the hayride and visited with people.  Danielle's knowledge of bees, bee keeping and the honey industry was amazing.  We learned a lot from her that day.  She also left brochures with honey recipes for people to take home.  Remember fresh harvested honey is now available here at the farm for you to purchase.

Happenings down on the Meuer Farm:

11/22/2011  The regular and haunted mazes have all been disassembled and harvested.  Fall tillage has been completed as well.  The beef calves were weaned off of their mothers a week ago, man was that a noisy 3 or 4 days!!! And the cows are now in their winter yard and lean to.  Deer hunting this week, and then on to cut more firewood next week for the fireplace, but mainly for maple syrup this next spring.  I am currently sold out of the Grade B maple syrup, but have some of the other 2 grades left  in quarts only.  Honey is still available as well!  And yes, I have butternut and accorn squash left here yet too.

12/03/2011  The past 2 days were spent covering the strawberry field with wheat straw (mulching).  This protects the plants from heaving and from breaking dormancy too early, say during a January thaw!!  Photos of this process can be found at the bottom of the strawberry page.  Its aleays cold and nasty when this gets done, since the plants have to be dormant first before we can do this.  And no to mention, you don't get many good days in a row here to get this done!!  So when  the conditions are right, its go, go,  go !!!  Still selling honey in small containers and 5 Gal. bulk pails along with maple syrup.  Remember these make excellent Christmas presents, especially for your out of state friends!!!  Just give me a call at the farm (920) 418-2676.

12/24/2011  Twas the night before Christmas, the animals are all fed and bedded, the strawberry plants are sleeping comfortably in their bed of straw, The firerwood is all split and ready for the maple syrup season,  and The Meuer Farm wishes all of our customers and everyone that visited the farm this past year, A Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.  Watch for special hours here at the farm after the first of the year for purchasing your maple syrup and honey!!  When in doubt, call (920) 418-2676.  Thanks again for a great year, and we will see you in 2012!!

02/15/2012  Maple syrup season for 2012 started today!  I tapped the trees, and we started boiling on the 17th. Sugar content is high, and the syrup yield is good!  It will be interesting to see just how long the season lasts this year, with the warm winter we are having.  My guess, is that it will be a short season!!  Time will tell.  So, stop by and watch the boiling process, and try some new Maple Syrup.  Of course its for sale along with the Golden Maple Root Beer, and honey!!

02/29/2012  We  have been making maple syrup for over 2 weeks now,and have had production and boiling almost every day!!  Suprising,  for the season being so early this year.  I will have plenty of maple syrup on hand for the Pancake breakfast on Mar. 11th here at the farm.  And we will have plenty available for sale as well.  Remember, that is a rain or shine event!!  The tram will be shuttling people to the maple syrup shed and back for tours, and the meal is in the maze complex which is heated and has an indoor bathroom!!!  So, hope to see everyone there that day!!

03/12/2012  I have been making maple syrup for almost a month now.  Sunday Mar. 11th, the syrup turned dark!!  I am now making Grade B maple syrup.  The syrup with the stronger maple flavor.  So for all of you that have been calling and asking about the Grade B, it is ready now!!  With the warm temps this week, I have a feeling that the season will be ending this week!!  So get your supply soon.  Production is well below last year!!  Thanks again to all that came for the panceke/maple syrup breakfast this last weekend!!

03/19/2012  Maple syrup season ended on Thursday, March 15th.  It lasted 30 days, and production is down about 40% this year.  I have all 3 grades of syrup available for sale, so do not wait too long.  A big thank you to all the people that came out and attended the FlapJack Days at Maywood Environmental Park in Sheboygan this past Sunday!!  What a geat day, and crowd!!

04/04/2012  All the strawberry plants had their straw removed on the 16th. of March.  With them starting so early this spring, picking could start in late May!  You can follow their progress this spring on the strawberry page!  Pastures are greening up quite nicely with that big push of warm air we had in March.  Cows will be going out to pasture in about a week.  calving will start in May this year!!

05/17/2012  The strawberries are in full bloom at this time.  I think picking will begin around June 1st.  Please watch this site for the exact start time, you can also like us on Facebook at Meuer Farm,LLC  and watch for mor info on there!!!  Cows should start calving soon, and the cows are enjoying the pastures.  First tour group of the season is due to arrive here next week, from Missouri!!  The corn mazes will be getting planted late this week!! Watch online soon for the 2012 design!!

Want to stop in and get some Kettle Corn?  Go ahead!  Kettle Corn is available every day during the  corn maze season (September/October). Need some for a special event any time during the year? Just give us a call! We'll be here!

Field Trips are our  Specialty! Thanks to our Sponsors,  they remain affordable!
If you are a business or  individual interested in sponsoring activities that promote agricultural education here on the farm,  please contact us at (920) 418-CORN(2676)

One of the most exciting times on our farm is giving fieldtrips.  I have fieldtrip packages available for day cares and school children of all ages.  Fieldtrips are available most times of the year, but the most exciting time is during the time that the maze is open.  We have fieldtrips available  if you want to bring your whole school, or certain grades, or just your class. Such as a science, biology or agriculture class. What better place to learn about science, biology, forestry or soil and water conservation than on a real working farm. we continue to offer low prices for school fieldtrips due to the cutbacks in school budgets.  This is my way to give back to the community by trying to introduce and educate children about agriculture and food production.  All fieldtrips are handicap accessible. Most groups spend 2 -4 hours here for a fieldtrip.  You are welcome to spend all day or make your fieldtrip as short as needed to fit your schedule.

Our fieldtrips through the maze include the following:
- Movies to introduce children to dairy and corn production, and how the corn maze is created.  (1/2 hour)
- An educational hayride around the property.   (45 minutes)
- Travelling through one phase of the corn maze.  (30 minutes)
- Access to the activity area.  (as long as you want)
- Area provided to eat your lunch.   (inside or outside)
- Bring bag lunches (get your milk here) or place you food order upon arriveal and it will be ready.
- An activity book,  a free pumpkin, gourd or cob of Indian corn to take home in the bag we provide.
- A pass to come back to the corn maze in the future. (Free with  a paid adult)

The Prices for our Fieldtrip Package are:

       $3.50/ child    Pre-K thru 8th. Grade

       $5.00/ Child    Grades 9 thru 12.

Every group requires one teacher or chaperone for every 6-7 children.  For teachers and chaperones that are required, their admission is free.  For extra adults that want to come along, that is fine and we encourage it, but their price is $7.00/ person.  Children and parents should bring some spending money along. There are special reduced prices for school kids to shoot the corn cannons and slingshots.  Parents, children or chaperones are welcome to purchase fall and halloween decor for decorating their schools or homes.

Fieldtrips during the maze in 2011 will begin on Sept. 6, 2011 and run thru Oct. 28,2011.  It is best to call or e-mail us as soon as you have a date picked out to reserve your date and time.  We need to know your date, arrival time, contact person and phone number, how many students, your departure time and your plans for lunch.  Even with as much rain as we had in 2009, there were no fieldtrip cancellations due to weather.  The  program in the main building is inside a heated building.  The farm animal area is inside as is the straw fort.. The duck races and corn box have roofs over them and lunch will be inside.  There are other inside activities such as movies, pumpkin carving and pumpkin decorating that can be done in adverse weather.
